“For I was hungry and you gave me
something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you
clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison
and you came to visit me.”
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for
one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me.”
(Matthew 25: 35-37, 40,
NIV)
God’s greatest commission to his people is to bring the
gospel to the ends of the world. In January 2005, Alpha Course (Hong
Kong) was recruiting volunteers from international churches for
the first ever English-speaking Prison Alpha in Hong Kong. About
22 members from our congregation responded to the recruitment drive.
Subsequently, in February 2005, two training sessions were organized
jointly by Alpha Course (HK), Kung Sun Christian Association and
our church.
The
first English Prison Alpha started in Ma
Po Ping in March 2005 and we were able to minister to inmates
from India, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Pakistan, China, Philippines and
local. Thanks to the Lord for helping the inmates and our team members
in overcoming some hurdles, including language barriers and differences
in our faith. By the grace of God and the continuous efforts of
the team members, friendship and trust started to build slowly with
the inmates. When we celebrated at the graduation ceremony, we could
see the joy and the excitement on their faces and we gave all glory
to God Almighty.
God
revealed to our church HIS heart for those thirsty souls captive
behind bars and HE calls us to be HIS agents to roll-in the divine
provision to them. In 2006, a door has been opened for us to bring
the Alpha course to Pik
Uk Prison, while we continue running a new course in Ma Po Ping.
The response and support from our congregation is very encouraging
and we can see people are really on fire for sharing the gospel
to inmates. We trust that God is working amongst us.
Apart
from the transformation of lives of the inmates, our members are
also richly blessed by this participation in this ministry. We are
amazed by and the power of the Holy Spirit and members are much
encouraged in their Christian walk and faith. Click

We are looking into the future to develop prayer and correspondence
ministries to inmates, so those in the team who cannot commit to
weekend visits can also help in the prison ministry.
