“Prayer is the key to unlock all the storehouses of
God’s infinite grace and power.
All that God is, and all that God has is at the disposal of prayer.”

Most of you are probably aware
of the various prayer activities that take place in our church,
however, some of you may wish to find out more details about each
activity and its purpose.
Below are some information and an invitation to participate in one
or all of the prayer activities that are taking place.
Pre-service Prayer
Every Sunday at 11.00 a.m., we come together for about 5 -10 minutes
to
pray for the Service. We pray for everyone involved in the service
- our preacher, bible reader, duty steward, pianist, choir, congregational
hosts and most of all for everyone who attends the service.
The prayer is preceded by an announcement made by one of the prayer
team members, inviting everyone to join hands at the front for the
prayer. Anyone who would like to say a prayer, he/she may do so
and one of us will close the prayer. Even if you choose not to pray,
the fact that you make your way to the front is an effort, we believe,
God will honor.
Q: How do I participate?
A: Just come forward when you hear the
announcement. We usually wait for a couple of minutes after the
announcement is made to allow people to make their way to the front
to join us. So…next time you are there when the
announcement is made, make your way to join us!
Q: You mean I can be there but not say a word, except
‘Amen’?
A: Yes, it’s as simple as that.
After Service Prayer
At the end of the service, you will see 3 to 4 prayer team members
standing on the dais. This has been going on for almost a year now.
The prayer team will pray for you in confidence and team members
are not allowed to share amongst each other. So it is just between
you and God and we are there just to support, to serve and to pray
for you.
Q: Why do I need to ask somebody to pray for me? I can
pray on my own!
A: True, you can pray on your own, however, there are times when
you are so burdened or distressed that you need someone to pray
for you and with you. God called us to carry each other’s
burdens (Gal 6:2). We do remember you during our own personal prayer
time so our prayer with you does not just stop as a one time prayer.
Q: What type of prayers can I request for?
A: Anything. Even if your life is smooth sailing, you can still
come forward to share the blessings and to give thanks to God by
praying with the prayer team.
Thursdays Prayer Meeting
This is led by Jean Illsley, from 7.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m., and
a time when we sing hymns, read a short passage of Scripture and
pray for various activities that take place in the church. Each
person is also given the opportunity to request for personal prayers
or share answered prayers. There is no fixed structure on how the
Prayer Meeting is run which makes the meeting a lively and a casual
one with no pressure on anyone.
Q: Why do I need to come to a Prayer Meeting when I
can pray at home?
A: There is a time to pray alone and a time to pray together as
a church. When God’s people get together to pray, there is
God’s special anointment. The Scripture says “For where
two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of
them” Matthew 18:20.
Q: Am I required to pray in the Prayer Meeting? I do
not know how to pray!
A: Don’t worry, no one is required to do anything that he/she
is not comfortable with, however, you are free to pray whenever
you feel ready.
If you would like to know more about the prayer activities in our
church, please feel free to contact:
Dina Chamberlain at dina@michk.org

Or talk to one of our prayer team members, who can be found on the
dais every Sunday, each wearing an orange badge.

Below are some personal insights about praying…
The best part about praying for other people is that you get to
see God's active intervention in so many situations. It strengthens
my own faith when I see how God turns seemingly impossible circumstances
around, and His timing is perfect! Every answered prayer reminds
me of God's desire to be involved in every aspect of our lives and
for us to be centred on Him. I would encourage anyone to become
more involved in the Prayer Ministry. Praying for each other is
such a tremendous privilege that we can all do.
— Caroline
Through praying for others, I empathize
with those who have struggles and rejoice with those who have answered
prayers. The most beautiful part is to witness how God works for
both situations. In a way, my personal prayer life also improves
and my faith being strengthened.
— San San
I think what we do is very special for two
reasons. Firstly, people often come with very personal and very
painful situations. They want God's help, but they are also willing
to share these with us - other human beings. Secondly, when people
tell us that prayers have been answered and how they have been answered
we are able to share with them how God is at work in their lives.
— Jean
I personally witness and experience the
power of prayer by praying for and with our brothers and sisters.
God shows me that prayer is more than what we would ask and expect
from HIM. It is our encounter with HIM and the Holy Spirit that
carries us through all the ups and downs in life.
— Joel
The Lord Jesus calls us to pray with Him.
It is true that He intercedes for us but He also wants us all to
be actively involved in praying for His Kingdom too. I have learned
earnestly in the last three years of being a Christian that prayer
brings us so close to the Lord. Being in His presence in prayer,
focusing on Him with my whole heart, and listening to hear His voice,
then I too am changed in the process. I feel that I have become
a more gentle, peaceful, and loving person than ever before. Prayer
has changed me.
— Jacqueline
Have you ever imagined what it feels like when you sit alone in
the Prayer Room waiting for others to join you? This was what happened
on July 26th when I was the only person present at the Prayer Meeting.
I knew that those who usually attend would not be there, but I was
hoping that maybe one new person would come. I sat there for the
next half hour in solitude, praying and worshipping Him. Suddenly,
a pang of sadness hit me and I sensed how our Heavenly Father feels.
Prayer has been a crucial part of my spiritual walk with God. The
greatest joy is, by praying for others, I am able to witness how
God has strengthened those with whom I have prayed with. In turn,
I too am strengthened. Nothing pleases our Father more than to see
us come together to seek Him. Will you join us as the body of Christ?
